Calendar Girls was the first show for St Neots Players that I had moved away from the stage and took up a FOH position. For the show I hired in equipment from a friend who runs an equipment hire business, and split payment with another friend from Longsands who operated the sound desk. We were told by the chairman of the society that it was the best and clearest sound he had heard for a long time, due to the boundary mics and shotgun mics we had hired in. There wasn’t a whole lot of music so it was easy to focus on enhancing speech on stage without using headset mics which would have been problematic given the nature of the show.
