Take thE fAst Train

Hills Road 6th Form

Lighting

Take the Fast Train was a 6th Form production from Hills Road, Cambridge which was performed at ADC Theatre Cambridge, with previews at Robinson Theatre. I was asked by Nick to design and operating the lighting for the show. This was my first time in a professional theatre, and the first time I had to create a lighting plan from a CAD drawn plot. This was a large learning curve at the time and with limited knowledge of the principles of lighting and different lanterns available my rig was almost entirely PAR cans. Looking back at the plans now, I would absolutely do things differently. Fortunately with the local crew (Penguins) on hand, they helped to create an even looking rig and helped to keep the show running smoothly. I was introduced to two different syntax based lighting systems for the first time and found it difficult at first. ADC Theatre had an ETC Ion, whereas the Robinson Theatre had a Strand 520i.

Thoroughly enjoyable, and I still quote the show to this day!
