The Little Mermaid

Big Top Touring Company

Owing to the success and fantastic experience of the Wizard of Oz, the director Tom Langdale set up his new performing arts company Big Top Touring Co. and started to perform in a big top every year. Earlier in 2012 we performed a variety show called Spectacular Spectacular for which I was once again followspot. However for The Little Mermaid I was promoted to LD and LX op, although I had to work with what I was given. I used MagicQ to control the all LED rig supplied by the circus, with a supplement of LED movers from a hire company. All of it was woefully inadequate, the LEDs providing facelight were not powerful enough so I ended up asking the followspot operators to light the cast at all times, in particular the primary characters for the scene. Unfortunately MagicQ crashed during a performance, but fortunately it crashed during a song holding the current scene which meant I could reset for the blackout, causing a small delay in the running of the show. This was the last time I used my MacBook Pro with MagicQ for a big show.
